Do animals REALLY have feelings?
Absolutely! Neuro-science has verified that animals feel all the same emotions that we feel! Research has identified the lymbic or 'feeling' parts of the brain to verify that animals and birds are sentient beings, with a full range of emotions and reactions to experiences. In fact, since the lymbic region is one of the oldest parts of the brain, we now know that humans and animals have ALWAYS possessed emotions.

Why animals are more emotional than people ...
Animals rely entirely on their senses for survival. They 'feel' their way through the world, sniffing, seeing, tasting, touching, listening, sensing. This information input is processed in the brain and nervous system
The left brain hemisphere controls logic and rationale. The right-brain hemisphere controls how we relate and interact with our world using our 7 senses--taste, touch, smell, hearing, sight, intuitively sensing, and emotions.
When focus is placed on the senses, it engages the right hemisphere of the brain. Since the right brain governs how we interact with and process the world, and holds all the memories we store from those experiences, right-brain is paramount to survival. Science has proven that those with high EQ balanced with IQ are overall more intelligent than IQ alone
In humans, right brain processes about 1200 thoughts per second, compared to the rational mind at 100 thoughts per second. So, right brain actually dictates 97% of our behavior!
That means animals are not just 'feeling' beings. Animals are infinitely more sentient than humans, who try to balance 'feeling' with analysis and logic!
Why animals 'mirror' their owners ...
Animals survive by using all seven senses to pick up non-verbal clues such as body language and fear. Interpreting body language accurately helps animals to know how to act or react. In this way, pets can often interpret the thoughts and feelings of their owners, simply by using their senses and reading body language
Social (pack or herd) animals, such as dogs and horses, tend to adopt human emotions more readily because they learn their cues for proper social behavior from their 'pack' or 'herd' members. Pack animals highly empathic so they can respond quickly to danger. So, they absorb our negative emotions, and mirror what we are feeling ... When humans comprise their social group, people become their role models

You don't need to neglect or abuse your pet to make it sick or neurotic. You just need to neglect or abuse yourself or not heal your own emotional issues!
Animals that spend a lot of time with humans are more likely to develop complex emotions, since we learn to higher emotions such as compassion and altruism by example from others. As a result, pets often begin to act a lot like their owners!
Many domestic animals begin to mirror the subtle body language, feelings, and behaviors of their owners or caregivers. That can show up as behavior issues, health issues, depression, vices, or neurosis
How animals help us to grow and evolve
It's no accident that you have chosen a particular animal to become your companion. Humans seek to validate our feelings, and therefore will generally choose human and animal companions that either mirror our points of view, or have some quality that we lack. Your animal's personality plays an important role in teaching you lessons that may seem too threatening when presented by a human companion. A gentle but firm prodding on a day to day basis creates opportunities for change. Animals also help you become more conscious of your priorities and motivations

"Oki has had a huge turn around. The day after we had you over, he was so different at my parents they did not think it was the same dog. Also on the Thursday night during Bella's training, he sat quietly with Peter holding his leash. The trainer was impressed, she may be calling you about one of her dogs." Delana B Thorold ON
